Western Red Cedar Essential Oil is one of my favorite essential oils! Western Red Cedar differs from Virginian or Port Orford in that it is sweeter and smells just like those old red cedar closets, even though it is not part of the cedar genus of plants.
We carry three different types of cedars:
Cedarwood Virginian– light, crisp
Cedarwood Port Orford-slightly heavier, sweeter, also known as White Cedar
Western Red Cedar– not truly a “cedar” plant, but this one has the true cedar chest aroma
Western Red Cedar Oil has high levels of camphor and thujone naturally, making it an excellent choice for all things related to reducing stress. Thujone is said to have a calming effect on the nervous system. This makes it an excellent addition to aroma treatments, such as shower steamers, pillow sprays, compression packs and more. You can blend western red cedar with ginger and marjoram to use as a diffuser blend in the winter, opening up airway passages and freshening the air.
Western Red Cedar Oil is excellent for use in skincare products. The natural astringent properties make it effective at balancing sebum production and helping to repair skin from acne damage. It is also highly effective in reducing inflammation in aging skin. Consider pairing it with Manuka to create a soothing, calming facial oil.
Western Red Cedar also helps to clear the scalp, balancing sebum production, helping to increase hair growth. Try blending western red cedar oil with rosemary, peppermint, white thyme and juniper, in a base of organic black seed oil, Oregon grown hazelnut oil and organic argan oil to create a scalp treatment.
Western Red Cedar blend well with ginger, marjoram, black pepper, cedarwood, sweet orange, vetiver, sandalwood, red mandarin, blood orange, tangerine, benzoin
Essential oils are sold in 0.5-ounce amber glass, 1-ounce amber glass with dropper, 4-ounce amber glass, 8-ounce amber glass, 16-ounce amber glass, 5-pound aluminum bottles, and 10-pound HDPE BPA-free jugs. For 25-pounds or larger, please email us at orders@shayandcompany.com.
Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils. Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
Do not take internally unless you are licensed to apply them as such.
