Port Orford Cedarwood is also known as White Cedar or Oregon Cedar. Port Orford is stronger than Virginian Cedarwood and sustainable in its growth as it can withstand storms and adverse weather better. Port Orford Essential Oil has traditionally been used both in ceremonial traditions throughout the PNW, and used in skin healing for its wound healing and astringent properties. Port Orford Cedarwood Essential Oil is a great addition both in the functionality on skin applications, and in the aromatherapy benefits.
We carry three different types of cedars:
Cedarwood Virginian– light, crisp
Cedarwood Port Orford-slightly heavier, sweeter, also known as White Cedar
Western Red Cedar– not truly a “cedar” plant, but this one has the true cedar chest aroma
Port Orford is a cypress species native to the Pacific Northwest. Historically this oil has been used in ceremonies for protection and purification. In Native American culture, the tree represents strength, longevity and perseverance. These same plant powers come through your skincare products.
Port Orford Cedar is an excellent oil for diffusing and for aromatherapy products such as shower steamers. Port Orford Cedar helps to clear congestion and coughs, and to help clear restricted breath. The added benefit of stress relief makes it an excellent product for end of day treatments, such as a diffuser blend, hand cream, or pillow spray.
The naturally high levels of astringent properties make Port Orford Cedarwood an excellent additive for skincare products targeting eczema, psoriasis, and acne. Balancing out sebum production is really key to helping inflamed skin become calm. Utilizing naturally astringent ingredients like Port Orford Cedar and Oregon grown Hazelnut Oil are great additions.
Cedarwood essential oil is also said to aid in hair growth and scalp cleansing. This is in part to the astringent properties. Adding Port Orford Cedarwood to hair treatments, such as a scalp spray, oils, shampoos and conditioners can help contribute to healthier hair. Plus, you’ll get all the calming and relaxation properties when you wash your hair!
Port Orford Essential Oil is also excellent at mosquito and bug repellent so consider adding this to house cleaning and summer products.
Port Orford Cedarwood blends well with lavender, lavandin, vetiver, chamomile, cinnamon, lemon, white thyme, frankincense, bergamot, patchouli, rosemary, sandalwood, cypress, clary sage
