We have two varieties of frankincense essential oil here at Shay and Company for you. Frankincense is a wonderful essential oil, with so many health benefits, but it is one of the more expensive essential oils. We are aware that prices are changing every day, so we have two frankincense essential oils at two different price points. We care that our customers have access to the best possible ingredients at the best possible pricing.
Both frankincense Boswellia essential oils have the same general benefits, but there are slight differences in the power of each.
- Frankincense Carterii has high levels of a-pinene, a-thujene, and limonene. This means Carterii has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, stress-relieving, and antioxidant properties. Carterii also helps to firm and tighten the skin and helps calm the mind.
- Frankincense Serrata is what is considered the biblical frankincense. Serrata has a large amount of a-thujene and is a very powerful antioxidant. Serrata is an antiseptic, decongestant, deodorizer and is most often used in meditation and as an anointing oil.

Frankincense essential oil has recently gained popularity in the natural product world, but in reality, it has been around and effective for thousands of years. There are many Biblical references to the use of frankincense and myrrh oils, along with other holy oils like palo santo essential oil, and holy basil essential oil (also known as tulsi). These oils carry powerful health benefits, both when applied topically and when used through aromatherapy methods.
Frankincense essential oil has very powerful anti-stress and anti-anxiety capabilities when inhaled. Try adding a few drops of frankincense essential oil to your diffuser. We run a blend in the office of 15 drops cedarwood essential oil, 7 drops palo santo essential oil, and 4 drops frankincense essential oil and we get a lot of compliments on it!
Frankincense essential oil has many antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties. You can use frankincense essential oil in toothpaste or topical applications for mouth sores. It can also be included in your hand sanitizer formula (try a blend of our aloe vera gel, organic witch hazel and a blend of frankincense essential oil, peppermint essential oil, and rosemary essential oil).
A study done in 2012 has shown many anti-cancer benefits. Frankincense essential oil has a high level of boswellic acid and terpenoid compounds. The study found that topical application of extracts of frankincense essential oil has promising anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-tumor effects.
Frankincense essential oil is also fast becoming a popular anti-aging ingredient due to its ability to help strengthen skin and improve tone and elasticity. Frankincense skincare products can also be applied to help reduce scarring, especially acne scars, and to help promote the healing of wounds. Try blending frankincense essential oil and rose essential oils in a base of organic sea buckthorn, organic tamanu, organic rosehip seed oil, organic camellia oil, daikon radish seed extract, and olive oil squalane for an amazing anti-aging face and body serum!
