Cajeput essential oil is a sister oil to tea tree essential oil. This plant grows natively in Australia and Southeast Asia. Oil of cajeput has a strong camphor base and is an amazing addition to diffuser blends to help with breathing and respiratory issues, and makes a great addition to pain relief gels/creams/topicals. Cajeput has a woodsy, herbal, slightly fruit, sweet scent.
Similar to tea tree, oil of cajeput is an excellent anti-fungal and is an excellent addition to products such as a scalp treatment for dandruff/dry/damaged hair; foot cream; toenail fungus oils; anti-bacterial soap bars and liquid soaps; and acne treatments. It should never be applied directly to the skin- always dilute it with carrier oils or in a blend in a product.
Melaleuca cajuputi oil makes an excellent diffuser blend, especially when you’re battling a cold or sinus infection, or just battling away the cloudy day. Try blending a little cajeput, with some wintergreen, rosemary, lemon and cinnamon to lighten up the space and open up your airways.
If you’re looking for a new smell for your ever-present hand sanitizer, try adding a little cajeput. You could blend it with sweet orange and rosemary, or cardamom, clove, and vetiver.
Cajeput oil has also been said to help repel mosquitoes and certain insects. This would work great in a spray base incorporating neem oil, peppermint essential oil and cajeput (try mixing the oils with Polysorbate 80, then adding to water to make a spray that won’t separate).
Cajeput blends well with cedar, clove bud, oregano, rosemary, white thyme, lavender, and geranium rose.
