Formulation Guidelines:

Water based formulas: we suggest blending THDA Vitamin C into Organic Broccoli Seed Oil or Ethylhexyl Palmitate to make it more bioavailable.

Water based formulas should have a finished pH of 6.5 or lower.

Add to oil phase of o/w emulsified products.

2% or higher is an effective level for maximum benefits. Generally well tolerated up to 10%

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THDA) is the most stable version of Vitamin C. Tetrahexyldecyl Acetate is made by esterifying ascorbic acid, then put through a hydrogenation process to stabilize it in an oil. Other forms of vitamin c oxidize extremely quickly, as soon as they touch oxygen, so using an oil solubilized version allows your skincare and hair care products to have active levels of vitamin c over the entire shelf-life of your product.

The oil-soluble form of Vitamin C considered to be more potent than L-Ascorbic acid and other Vitamin C compounds, and has a higher rate of penetration (because it is lipid soluble, like human skin) than other derivatives; it also has a higher rate of conversion to Vitamin C within the dermis.

Vitamin C is a prominent ingredient in rejuvenating skincare and hair care formulas. Vitamin C is not only an extremely beneficial anti-oxidant, it is also a contributing factor in increasing moisture and hydration in the epidermis and in hair follicles,

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is stable in formulations, can penetrate the skin’s lipid barrier, and helps to lighten and brighten skincare, plus it helps to increase natural collagen production. You can use this version of oil soluble vitamin c in suncare formulas, facial oils, facial creams, eye serums, lip balm/lip treatments, hair oils, scalp treatments, and more.

Multiple studies point to THDA being one of the better forms of Vitamin C, not only for its increased stability and penetration, but for its increased antioxidant activity and effectiveness in promoting collagen production. One study found that THDA surpasses the penetration of L-Ascorbic acid by threefold at the same concentration, and maintains a higher penetration rate, reaching both the epidermis and dermis.

You can combine the use of Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate with Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) for a higher level of brightening. Both vitamin C and B3 work to combat dark spots and increase brightness. Just a 3% level of Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate has been shown to decrease UV induced skin darkening. This makes Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate an excellent addition to all post-sun treatments.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate also works great on hair. You can start at 0.1% up to 0.5% to help repair damaged cuticles. It will also leave hair shinier and feeling healthier. A great blend of oils for hair would be Organic Broccoli Seed Oil (natural silicone alternative), Oregon Hazelnut Oil, Organic Argan Oil, Organic Black Seed Oil, Organic Baobab Oil, with 0.5% Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate and an essential oil blend of Lavender 40/42, Juniper, Rosemary and Cornmint. Smells great and leaves hair soft and manageable.

Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is so gentle and bio-available for the skin that it can be combined with Retinol products.
