Benefits: incense, aromatherapy, perfume making, healing wounds, antimicrobial, antibacterial, astringent, hydration, anti-inflammatory, calming, relieves anxiety
Viscosity note: this is a resin so it is thick. Simply warm in a warm water bath to get it loose, then add to your other essential oils or carrier oils. Once cooled in the bottle, the product will go back to thick but not once you dilute it into your product/carrier oils.
Shelf life note: many essential oils, such as woods and resins, have a much longer shelf life than citrus essential oils. Benzoin has a minimum 5 year shelf life, but is often good for much longer.
Benzoin Resin Essential Oil has long been used in both aromatherapy and topical applications. Benzoin is a thicker liquid with a lovely, bright vanilla aroma. This is to be used as a blending essential oil, not as stand alone scent.
Benzoin Essential Oil has many benefits, both in creating powerful aromatherapy products (incense and perfumes) and in topical applications like massage products, skincare, and haircare. Benzoin is very popular in high-end perfume applications and when making incense.
The natural antibiotic and antibacterial properties of benzoin essential oil make it an excellent choice to add to acne skincare lines. Incorporating essential oils that work to combat bacterial development on the skin can help reduce the occurrence of skin breakouts and acne. Blend benzoin essential oil with other create anti-acne oils such as clary sage, helichrysum, geranium, juniper, rosemary and cypress to create a custom anti-acne essential oil blend.
Benzoin is said to help create a protective barrier on the skin and to help retain moisture. This makes it ideal for face care products, sun care products, and for thick, rich creams targeting dry skin.
Benzoin also smells beautiful and balanced, so adding this to your essential oil blend just creates a smoother aroma.
Benzoin is composed of benzyl benzoate, which is on the EU restricted list and has gotten some bad press. Benzyl benzoate is often used as a solvent in the process for making absolutes, Co2 extracted oils, and floral waxes. Benzyl Benzoate is restricted in cosmetic use due to the possible sensitivity to skin and the possible neural toxic effects. These neural toxic effects only occur in very high dosages; much higher than what you would ever find in cosmetic products. Benzyl Benzoate has also been talked about as an endocrine disruptor, but this has been unfounded. This is also cause by the pure ingredient itself, not products that contain the ingredient. 100% pure benzyl benzoate that is applied directly to the skin will most definitely cause a reaction. When found in essential oils (naturally occurring benzyl benzoate) or when used in the absolute/co2/floral wax process, the actual amount of benzyl benzoate is less than 0.05% in the finished absolute/co2/floral wax. Then you’ll use a max of 2-3% of that absolute/co2/floral wax in your finished product so the actual amount of benzyl benzoate in your finished product is 0.001%.
Essential oils are sold in 0.5-ounce amber glass, 1-ounce amber glass with dropper, 4-ounce amber glass, 8-ounce amber glass, 16-ounce amber glass, 5-pound and 10-pound sizes. For 25-pounds or larger, please email us at orders@shayandcompany.com.
Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils.  Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
Do not take internally unless you are licensed to apply them as such.
