Organic Linden Flowers not only impart a lovely, sweet aroma to your products, but they also help sooth irritated skin/scalp, increase moisture and shine in hair, and are ideal for use in products targeting excess sebum production.
Organic Linden is often used in teas and cold remedies, as they have strong soothing capabilities. In cosmetic applications, creating linden extracts and then using them in your hair and skincare lines delivers high levels of polyphenols, soothing both hair and skin, and enhancing moisture.
Linden is often used when creating skin remedies, such as salves and poultices. You can extract the flowers/leaves into castor oil when creating a salve, then also use finely ground material to enhance the active level.
Organic Linden also is known for its natural astringent properties, creating an excellent tincture or oil for acneic skincare lines. You can create an oil based extract using Organic Linden Flowers and Oregon based hazelnut oil, both astringent products, then use them in facial oils or serums targeting acne.
Organic Linden has a naturally high mucilage content. This is a polysaccharide that, when used in hair and skincare, helps to retain moisture and work as a humectant. This also makes it ideal for use in hair care products. There are a couple of ways you can do this:
Tea- when creating specialized hair care lines you can use a variety of different dried herbs to create a “tea” as your water base. You can use a single herb, or you can create blends, simply by steeping the dried flowers/leaves/roots in your purified water. Use about 1-2Tbs of dried herbs per 8 ounce of water, heat until boiling, then allow to steep and create the tea. You do need to make sure and use distilled or deionized water as you will be adding this to your formula.
Oil Extract- you can create your own oil extract, or you can use one of ours, and use this oil in your shampoo/conditioner, either liquid or bar formulas. When we process our oil extracts, we do a cold extraction and we use 20% herb to give the oil a really good dose of the plant material. There are machines out where you can easily do a hot extraction, making this process much faster.
Dried material- you can grind up very finely the linden flowers and leaves and use them in your shampoo bar or dry shampoo. You will need to ensure this is very finely ground so as not to be abrasive or leave grit in your bar. You will add to this to cooling phase if you are making shampoo bars. Ideal usage rate is 1-3% for this process.
Organic Linden Leaves are also excellent for giving soap bars a lovely, creamy consistency. This is due to their high level of mucilage. To use in soap bars:
- You would need to either create an oil extraction into one of your oils (such as Pomace Olive, just be sure to deduct that from your pomace quotient),
- Or you can create a tea such as notated above. You’ll deduct this from your water content, then add to the soap after you have mixed the lye water and oils, as you are reaching trace. This will help preserve all the benefits of the linden flower.
- Or simply grind up the leaves/flowers and add them to your soap bars, with a few whole flowers on top as decoration.
You can also use Organic Linden Flowers/Leaves to create your own tinctures. Tinctures can be made using a variety of bases, such as organic witch hazel, glycerin or an organic carrier oil.
Organic Linden Flowers/Leaves are sold in ½-pound biodegradable bags, 1-pound biodegradable bags, 5-pound biodegradable bags, 25-pound, and 50-pound sizes. Any orders larger than 500-pounds please email us for pricing.
