Lavandin Grosso essential oil is derived from a hybrid lavender plant (a blend of Lavandula angustifolia or true lavender, and spike lavender). The end result is a powerful lavender aroma with a herbal base note. This is an incredibly popular version of lavender essential oil and does smell different from both our Lavender 40/42 and Organic Buena Vista Lavender.
A little on our various lavenders:
Lavender 40/42 is the “standard” French lavender blend. The 40/42 is an indication of the blend and every lavender 40/42 should smell and perform the same. This creates a very stable lavender that is extremely consistent.
Organic Buena Vista Lavender is a stronger lavender smell, that is also more expensive. This essential oil is for the true lavender lover and has a powerful and enticing aroma.
Lavandin Grosso is in between these two as far as strength, with a very dominant lavender profile but not as strong as the Buena Vista Lavender.
All three lavenders work well in soaps, skincare, aromatherapy, hair care and candles, although I would caution on using the organic lavender as it will be more expensive for candles.
If you are specifically looking for a lavender for wound care products or for sleep products, I would suggest either the Lavender 40/42 or the Organic Buena Vista Lavender. Lavandin Grosso has a stronger camphor base note so it can be a little stronger on the skin and in smell.
Lavandin Grosso works excellent in soaps and candles, though! If you’re looking to either boost your current lavender aroma, or create a new blend using lavender for your smell, Lavandin Grosso is an excellent option. You can blend it with either other lavender to boost the scent, or you can simply use it on its own. You can blend Lavandin Grosso with a fragrance to create a scent blend. For example, say you want a Lavender Orange Candle, you would use our Lavandin Grosso Essential Oil and our all-natural Lemon Orange Blossom Fragrance. Orange essential oil will not burn and smell like oranges.
Lavandin Grosso is an excellent essential oil to add to home cleaning products. The smell is stronger than Lavender 40/42, which means you can use less in your formula or you can have a more impactful scent. It also has strong anti-bacterial properties making it an excellent option for surface cleaning formulas. Try blending with Eucalyptus and Lemon essential oils!
Lavender essential oil has also been said to help condition hair, leave it smoother and to help decrease thinning hair. Lavandin Grosso is an excellent option for hair care products as the aroma is lasting and it will help to cleanse the scalp.
As a note, Lavandula Hybrida does not mean that it is a synthetic or lab created scent. Hybrida simply means that it is from a plant that crossed over and blended with another plant species. In this case, true lavender and spike lavender made a lavender baby and called it Lavandin.
Essential oils are sold in 0.5-ounce amber glass, 1-ounce amber glass with dropper, 4-ounce amber glass, 8-ounce amber glass, 16-ounce amber glass, 5-pound aluminum bottles, and 10-pound HDPE BPA-free jugs. For 25-pounds or larger, please email us at orders@shayandcompany.com.
Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils. Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
Do not take internally unless you are licensed to apply them as such.
