Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride is a naturally derived, plant based conditioning cationic polymer. Can be used in skincare and haircare products to both build viscosity and create excellent conditioning agents. An excellent addition for shaving care products, building viscosity, conditioning the hair to allow for smooth glide, and leaving the skin soft and smooth.
Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, also called Guar Quat, is an easy-to-use thickener for shampoos made with natural based surfactants. Natural Surfactants can be tricky to customize as they don’t have strong, synthetic foamablity. Adding guar quat to your formulation can help stabilize the shampoo when you add in actives and/or fragrances or essential oils.
Guar Quat Benefits:
- Anti-static- reduces electrostatic charges in hair
- Conditioning agent- increases shine, elasticity, and ease of brushing
- No build up in hair
- Boosts natural shine; increases volume
- Conditioning feel when used in skincare products such as lotions, creams and shaving products
- Viscosity builder with natural surfactants
- Low toxic and low irritation; ideal for all skin and hair types
- Pearl suspension agent
How to use:
Disperse Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride into the water phase
Mix well with high-shear mixer; does not have to mix for a long period; will continue dispersion after continuing with formula
Can be used in lotions, creams, facial formulations, shaving creams, body washes, shampoos and conditioners
For Shampoos or Foaming Body Washes:
Add in surfactants such as Cocamidopropyl Betaine to help balance pH; add in SLSA or SCI to create lather
After adding surfactants can make citric acid or lactic acid to help balance pH
How to use to incorporate into finished shampoos to help disperse added ingredients?
Create a solution of guar and water; mix thoroughly to create a slurry.
Add in essential oils, fragrances and active ingredients into your guar slurry.
Blend into shampoo or foaming body wash base.
You can include Polysorbate 80 to help disperse oil based ingredients into the guar slurry.
This guar is not for use to create clear formulations.
