Refined/bleached/deodorized? This beeswax is not designed to be used in skincare formulas, therefore the RBD process is not regulated.
Non-gmo: Based on the information from our suppliers, the honeybees used to produce our beeswax are not born from recombinant DNA technology. Shay and Company does not perform testing for the presence or absence of GMO.
Melt Point: 51-60°C/123.8-140°F
We have a variety of beeswax and other functional waxes for skincare and soap making applications. This wax, however, is only designed to be used in candles, not in skincare applications.
Yellow Beeswax Beads are an easy to use alternative to beeswax slabs for making beeswax candles. You can use beeswax to create pillar or taper candles, plus you can add beeswax to any soy or coconut/soy blend to give firmness and increase heat throw in soy based waxes.
For blends, I do suggest starting at 5% beeswax and testing for your fragrance and wick compatibility. Beeswax on its does require a BLSQ square braided wick in order to burn correctly. In a blend, though, you can use traditional cotton, hemp or wood wicks, you will just need to test each blend and each fragrance to ensure compatibility.
Making Beeswax Candles-
Beeswax candles are well loved in the candle world and impart a whole different level of natural to your candle line. As I said above you can use candle beeswax in a blend, or you can use it on its own. To make 100% pure beeswax candles you just need wax and wicks!
Melt the beeswax beads- beeswax is harder than soy or soy blends so you will have to heat this slightly higher. You do want to make sure to not overheat it so you don’t burn it.
Fragrance- you can add fragrances and/or essential oils to beeswax candles just like you do soy/soy blends. Beeswax does have a natural aroma so whichever scent you select you will need to ensure your fragrance/EO blend is strong enough or that it compliments it. I would suggest using 6-10% scent load in beeswax candles.
Once fragrance/EO is added, make sure to stir the blend completely and slowly. Stirring in scent is a critical step, and one where you can create some finish issues with your candles. Always stir slowly, in a W shape (not just round and round), making sure to go slow and not create pockets of air.
You can then pour the wax into your molds or containers, or you can start dipping your BLSQ wicking to make tapers. To make tapers you will cut your wick to slightly longer than the finished product so you have room to hold it. Dip the wick, allow to cool slightly, dip again, allow to cool, dip again, cool (you get it). Repeat this until you have the thickness you’re looking for. Hang to cool so you don’t get flat sides.
If you’re looking for beeswax that can be used in skincare, hair care, soap manufacturing and beeswax wraps, here is information on the other beeswax options.
Here at Shay and Company we offer you four types of beeswax. We have smaller white pharmaceutical grade beeswax prills, conventional white beeswax granules/prills that are not pharmaceutical grade, organic white beeswax beads, and organic yellow beeswax beads. All our beeswax is 100% pure beeswax. Color may vary batch to batch. Organic white beeswax and organic yellow beeswax, along with the Pharmaceutical Grade White Beeswax Pirlls have a mild, honey aroma; Conventional White Beeswax Granules have a slightly processed odor, but this dissipates when you melt it.
Beeswax prills are the same size as the white granules, but they are pharmaceutical grade. Our beeswax prills are put through a mechanical filtration process to remove the yellow color, and not bleached with an oxidizing agent.
White Beeswax Beads/Granules– conventional beeswax beads. These can be in the very small prill size, or the traditional bead size, depending on which was run. It is the same material inside, just a different size.
Organic Yellow Beeswax Beads– excellent beeswax in small bead form. These are not bleached, leaving the traditional honey-like aroma. Sometimes these beads can have a stronger smell when first ran. We always suggest opening the bag and allowing these to breathe, should they smell strong when you first receive them.
Organic Whie Beeswax Beads– this is your alternative for organic beads should you not want the color and/or aroma of the yellow. Organic white beads have been refined to remove both of those, leaving a high quality wax that is certified organic.
Cera Bellina Wax– a polyglycerol of beeswax, to be used in stick and emulsified formulas. Cera Bellina wax is used in our lip balm base. It is what gives stick formulas like lip balms the heat stability and great glide on the skin.
A note from the manufacturer about the care taken when harvesting beeswax:
The companies we deal with for decades work either with local beekeepers or are
beekeepers themselves. It is important to point out that the collection of crude Beeswax, a by-product of honey production, is secondary to the collection of raw honey, a much larger and more significant industry.
To illustrate this ancestral industry, the honey (and beeswax collections) could be
described as follow:
- The apiarist extracts the honey from the comb by first removing the frame from the hive and mechanically cutting the outer layer of Beeswax (Capping) from the comb.
- Immediately, the frame is put into a centrifuge which facilitates the removal of raw honey. The frame, now without honey but with combs intact, is returned to the hive which will again be filled by the honeybee.
- To address the concern of possible harm to the bees in removing the honey from the hive, it is nonexistent. Great care is taken by the beekeeper to maintain his bees: without the bees, the apiarist would lose his business.
We trust that these further precisions about this industry substantiate the great care which is taken of the bees.

We carry a variety of different waxes for candles. You can use any of these waxes on their own, or you can blend any or all of them together. Each wax does come with full instructions on how to best use it. Candle making is an art, so please know that you will have to test each candle wax and each scent to make sure it performs the way you want it to. Each fragrance can/will behave slightly different; each wick will behave differently; each wax will behave differently. Do your production tests for each blend, make sure to measure out your ingredients by weight, not by drops or teaspoons, and keep good notes so you can replicate your successes!
Here is information on the other waxes we carry.
Bayberry Wax- Bayberry candles have traditionally been burned both for their enticing, soothing aroma and it is said burning Bayberry candles brings wealth and prosperity! You can use Bayberry wax to create dipped taper candles, pillar candles, votives, and container candles. It is slightly softer than beeswax so you can always blend yellow beeswax and bayberry wax together to create a firmer candle.
Organic Yellow Beeswax– this is a fantastic, 100% beeswax with a lovely honey aroma. You can use this in tapers, pillars, and container blends. It will have the beeswax aroma when burning. These are organic and more expensive, so I would only suggest using these if you are promoting an organic candle.
White Beeswax Beads– these are a traditional white beeswax. Can be used in candles or any other application. You would use these in your candles if you want the finished beeswax candle to be white.
