Collagen is a natural protein found in all our internal organs and skin. Collagen is comprised of three alpha chains of amino acids called Gly-Pro-Hyp. Tripeptide 29 utilizes the three-chain amino acid sequence that replicates the amino acid sequence occurring throughout our own collagen protein structure: Glycine-Proline-Hydroxyproline, or Gly-Pro-Hyp. Today, using these basic amino acid building blocks, we can produce natural, biomimetic peptides, thus bio-identical activity.
Tripeptide 29 is made up of proline and hydroxyproline peptides from glutamic acid, abundantly found in seaweed. Glycine is found in ammonia. Tripeptide 29 is not sourced from animal by-products. The molecular weight of Tripeptide 29 is 285D, which makes it completely bioavailable. It is recommended that molecular weight of ingredients targeted to be absorbed into the skin be 1000D or less, more ideal is 500D of less.
This pure peptide is the synthetic form of Gly-Pro-Hyp tripeptide that can significantly increase collagen synthesis and repair the skin. Degradation of collagen is one of the leading causes of wrinkle formation. Topical applications of soluble collagen can mask the appearance of wrinkles; however, maintaining collagen levels is imperative in a comprehensive, anti-aging skin care regimen.
National Institute of Health determined that incorporating topical collagen products into your regular skincare routine can help to improve skin elasticity and viscoelasticity parameters, and that skin hydration, elasticity, and echogenicity of dermis were improved after 1 month of topical collagen application. Testing by the manufacturer has shown an exceptional increase in collagen when fibroblasts are treated with Tripeptide 29. Treatment by a formula incorporating Tripeptide 29 at a 0.1-1% by volume rate demonstrated a 103%, 196%, and 506% increase in the levels of collagen absorbed. This shows that Tripeptide 29 increases fibroblast pro-collagen 1a1 secretion. This increase enhances collagen deposits creating firmer skin matrix and higher dermal-epidermal junctions. This helps to aid in firmer, younger looking and healthier skin.
