BLSQ#4 6” pre-cut, pre-tabbed wick. 2.21” flame height; 2.21” burn pool.
Bleached, square wicks (BLSQ)– BLSQ wicks are the traditional wick for beeswax candles, but they also work well in waxes that are harder and more viscous when melted. Square braided wicks are made using a very tight braid, enabling a hotter flame then finished in a salt treatment to increase heat output. BLSQ wicks are self-curling, minimizing carbon buildup.
We do offer BLSQ wicks in both bulk and pre-cut options. If you are making taller pillars or dipped candles, please select the bulk option so you can cut to size. The pre-cut options are great for pillar and container beeswax candles, and blends that have high levels of beeswax in them.
Benefits of BLSQ wicks
There’s no better wick for beeswax candles that square braided wicks. The strong structure and tight braid allow for a nice hot flame with consistent melt pool.
BLSQ work in containers, votives, tapers, dipped candles and pillars, as long as they all have some amount of beeswax in them. If your wax blend is only a small amount of beeswax, you’ll definitely have to test the wick. I would probably suggest trying an LX or HTP wick first.
What type of waxes work well with BLSQ wicks?
BLSQ wicks are specifically designed to work best with beeswax based waxes and beeswax wax blends. Beeswax is a lovely wax to use on its own, it can just take a little learning to figure out how to scent and how to wick.
BLSQ can work in paraffin wax blends but you will have to test as the burn pool will be different than in beeswax candles.
You can use BLSQ wicks in pillar and taper candles.
Can BLSQ wicks work with high fragrance load candles?
BLSQ wicks are design to burn hot, as beeswax needs a hotter flame than soy or paraffin. This does make it a good choice for high fragrance candles. You also need a larger amount of fragrance if you are making 100% beeswax candles, as it does take more to have a good hot throw.
If you’re making beeswax candles and want it to have a scent, make sure to select a stronger smelling fragrance (softer scents will get lost in the aroma of beeswax), and try blending in a little coconut wax to help soften the finished candle just a little and boost hot throw.
Heavy vanilla or heavy floral fragrances can sometimes require a more powerful wick, sow definitely need to test which BLSQ works best if making these with beeswax.
Are BLSQ wicks self-trimming?
BLSQ wicks are a tight braid and are designed to curl into the wick as it is burning. Little to no-mushrooming will happen, but there can be some trimming needed if used on large candles.
Mushrooming is caused when there is an imbalance between the amount of heat the wick puts off and the amount needed for the candle. Generally, this means that the wick is too large for the candle; either the flame and burn pool are too large, so you need to scale down in wick size, or the wick burns too hot for that specific wax type.
Do Shay wicks contain lead?
As always, all our wicks are zinc and lead free; made of natural fibers only.
For personal guarantees, always test each wick with each different wax type, fragrance and container. Personal testing is the only way to ensure how the wick will perform in your product.

Raw wicks are sold in 12.5 feet, 50 feet, 250 feet and 500 feet increments.
All bags used for our wick packaging are biodegradable (green top) or recyclable.
Wick Accessories
Wick tabs– These are metal wick tabs that you can use on any bulk wicking material. Our tabs are 20mm x 3mm with a 6mm wick tab sticking up. You’ll thread your wicking material through the tab, then crimp the wick tab around the wick base. These can be used with any wick, not just with our wicking material. You will use these to adhere to our wick stickers, then affix that to your container.
Wick Holding Bars – Metal bars to center and support your wick while candle is setting. Candle wick holder bars are 4″ long 1/2″ wide with center spot to hold the wick.
Sold in packs of 12.
Wick Stickers– These wick stickers are sized to fit the pre-tabbed wicks that we carry and most pre-tabbed wicks in the industry. Wick stickers are double-sided, foam stickers that are designed to withstand the high heat of hot candle pours, and are a lower profile sticker so that your candle can burn almost all the way down to the bottom. Wick stickers measure 1/2” in diameter and have been specifically tested to work with all of our wick styles. These wick stickers are made custom for us with almost 2 years of testing to ensure they work perfect for you and your customer. These will work with all wax types.
Wick Stickers are sold in quantities of 25, 100, 500 and 1000.
