Annatto seed powder is made of ground annatto seeds. This creates a brilliant orange powder with almost no smell. Annatto seed powder can be used as a natural colorant in your soap bars and skin care products, and it also excellent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits for the skin.
Plant based materials that are naturally vibrant in color are the ones with the highest levels of natural anti-oxidants, and annatto is bright yellow to orange! Power right there in that little seed. Anti-oxidants, when incorporated in skincare formulas, help to fight off damage from free radicals, help to decrease signs of aging and wrinkles, and help to boost natural cellular repair.
Annatto seed powder is also very calming for inflamed skin, which makes it an excellent addition to products targeting sunburns, eczema, psoriasis, and acne. A little goes along way with Annatto, so just incorporating a small amount into your oils, then blending into your finished product will help soothe skin. For example, adding Annatto Seed Powder to your acne treatment, you could do a salve with Organic Castor Oil, Organic Rice Bran Wax, Organic Coconut Oil, Mustard Seed Oil (for heat and purification), Zinc Oxide, Annatto Seed Powder and Clary Sage Essential Oil. This can be applied as a spot treatment, or you can add in some Organic Jojoba Oil and make it into a soothing cream.
Looking to create a face scrub for your product line? Make sure to use clays and seed powders as they are powerful treatments and can be left on for 2-20 minutes, then scrubbed off to boost that power. Dry scrubs are an excellent way to get a scrub into the hands of your clients, without having to worry about a preservative. Just package in a bottle with a shaker lid or in a bottle with an easy pour opening, and then activate with water or an oil.
