AC Watercress Extract SF is a water soluble, sustainably harvested skincare active that can be incorporated into your formulas anywhere from 0.1-10% to be effective in reducing aging in skin. Watercress is a water-growing, leafy plant that grows wild in the US and around the world. Watercress is considered a superfood due to its high levels of antioxidants, including a very stable source of Vitamin C. Incorporating Watercress Extract into your skincare and haircare formulas means you can claim all the benefits of the stable vitamin c in your formula.
Don’t limit your use of Watercress Extract to just skincare. Yes, most of the studies done on watercress have been in the skincare realm, but remember that hair ages along with skin, and you can and should incorporate skincare actives that fight free radicals, pollution and aging into your scalp and hair treatments.
When you incorporate Watercress Extract into your shampoos, conditioners, scalp treatments and hair masks, you will help to remove oil and soap residue, leaving cleaner, healthier hair. Watercress Extract also has high levels of natural zinc and sulfur. This helps to boost natural hair growth and possibly increase hair thickness.
Watercress Extract SF has been tested and proven to be highly effective in skincare applications. There are reports attached under the Documents tab, but here are some brief descriptions of the testing results by the manufacturer:
- AC Watercress Extract SF exhibited anti-inflammatory effects on LPS-treated fibroblasts. This decrease in IL-6 production indicates a reduced inflammatory environment, which could decrease the signs of aging and reduce the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. It can therefore be concluded that at normal use concentrations, AC Watercress Extract SF enhances soothing and anti-aging properties
- AC Watercress Extract SF at 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1.0% enhanced keratinocyte intracellular calcium levels by 1%, 5%, and 14% compared to complete media alone, respectively. Collectively, these data demonstrate that AC Watercress Extract SF increases intracellular calcium, an indicator of keratinocyte proliferation, differentiation, and migration, which contributes to the maintenance of skin barrier integrity and homeostasis
- AC Watercress Extract SF (11907) at all concentrations exhibited greater antioxidant activity than 200μM Trolox®. As a result, we can assure that the ability of AC Watercress Extract SF to minimize oxidative stress is evident at the concentrations examined. Maximizing the antioxidant capacity on a cellular level allows for ROS to be dealt with at a rate that provides protection from cellular damage. AC Watercress Extract SF outperformed both the BV-OSC and Ascorbic acid control at every concentration. It can therefore be concluded that AC Watercress Extract SF is capable of providing antioxidant properties and aids in the anti-aging process through protection at the cellular level.
- Fibroblasts treated with AC Watercress Extract SF at 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1.0% demonstrated 33%, 39%, and 41% reductions in ROS levels compared to fibroblasts treated with AntA, respectively. Similarly, fibroblasts incubated with BV-OSC at 0.01%, 0.1%, and 1.0% demonstrated 21%, 28%, and 32% reductions in ROS levels compared to fibroblasts treated with AntA, respectively. These data demonstrate AC Watercress Extract SF attenuates excessive oxidative stress to a greater extent than BV-OSC.
- In this study, AC Watercress Extract SF was tested to evaluate its effects on the viability of normal human dermal fibroblasts (NDHF). At concentrations of 0.01% and 0.1%, AC Watercress Extract SF, nor the preservatives contained therein exhibited any inhibition of cell viability. It can therefore be concluded that at normal use concentrations, AC Watercress Extract SF is not cytotoxic.
