Tonka Bean oil is that super expensive, yet lovely essential oil, that makes such an excellent addition to perfume and high-end essential oil blends. This essential oil has such a delightful aroma and adds a great sweet base note for floral blends, without adding more floral notes. Our specific Tonka Bean absolute is 100% pure, no dilutants added.
Tonka Bean has been used for centuries to help create a sense of calming, peacefulness and to help with sleep. Internally it has been used as an expectorant and anti-spasmodic.
Tonka Bean absolute, due to it being 100% pure, is thick and can be a solid at room temperature. Absolutes can be a little tricky to work with in the beginning, so we do suggest diluting this down into an oil that you commonly use in your formulas, then adding it in. So, say you’re creating a facial oil and you’ll be using Organic Rosehip Seed Oil in your formula, use the rosehip seed oil to dilute the tonka bean oil. Then the tonka will remain liquid and you’ll be able to incorporate it into your formula much easier. Any oil that remains liquid will work for your dilution.
Tonka Bean essential oil is derived from the Tonka tree. This tree grows naturally in South America and West Africa. The bean is harvested and dried, then soaked to create the coumarin formulation on the exterior. Coumarin is the beneficial part of the bean. The dried bean is then ground and processed through a solvent extraction to get the lovely and beneficial tonka bean absolute.
There are some contraindications to consuming synthetic coumarin internally. Tonka Bean absolute does not contain any synthetic compounds, so the coumarin is 100 % natural and is totally safe to be applied topically. We do not recommend consuming tonka bean internally.
Tonka Bean absolute blends perfectly with amber, tobacco, lavender, rose, cistus, citrus, clary sage, jasmine, neroli, patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, coffee, cacao
Tonka bean oil is sold in 0.5-ounce amber glass, 1-ounce amber glass with dropper, 4-ounce amber glass, 8-ounce amber glass, 16-ounce amber glass, 5-pound aluminum bottle, and 10-pound BPA-free jerricans. For 25-pounds or larger, please email us at orders@shayandcompany.com.
Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils. Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
Do not take internally unless you are licensed to apply them as such.
