Our unscented Premier Hair Conditioner base is set and ready for you to use as is, or to customized to create your own custom conditioner base. As with all our bases, this one is “extra” so you can dilute it down and customize it for your own needs.
This base is designed to be extra thick. This allows you a lot of space in your product line to create several different conditioning agents.
Ways to customize:
As is you can simply add your own essential oil or fragrance blend. No need to heat this up to get the scent in, just add 1-2% scent blend and mix well. You don’t need an immersion blender, just a spoon or spatula and mix well.
Spray Hair Conditioner:
This base is so rich you can dilute it down with any of our organic hydrosols, organic witch hazel or distilled water. Try blending our Organic Peppermint and Organic Rosemary Hydrosols for a tingly, refreshing base that also helps stimulate hair growth and cleanse the scalp. You can add other hair specific ingredients to this base, should you so desire. You can find a list of hair ingredients at this link. Most actives are used at 1-5% so you could blend in quite a few if you wanted. Once you have your finished concentrate, add up to 75% water/hydrosol/witch hazel. Traditional blends are 1 part conditioner base to 3 parts water. I would suggest adding in a preservative at this point as you are drastically increasing the water content. You can use either our Leucidal Liquid Complete or the CampoPlantservative Water Soluble version, or add in more Sodium Benzoate and blend with Potassium Sorbate (equal parts) and you’ll keep the same ingredient deck.
Hair Ingredients for coily hair:
Excellent ingredients to add to this base to make it even more hydrating for coily hair are Organic Shea Butter, Honey, Vegetable Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Coconut Oil, Organic Argan Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Organic Avocado Oil, and Horsetail Butter. You can add any and all of these to our Premium Conditioner Base. You can also dilute the base down with deionized water and/or an organic hydrosol first, then add in these ingredients to create a different effect and texture.
- Shea butter and cwill both increase the firmness of the product. You could blend these starting at 5% of your total formula until you get to the desired hardness of the finished product.
- Coconut Oil- we have several versions you could use and each will affect the end product slightly differently. Coconut 92 will stay more firm in the finished product, allowing for a harder product. This will work great if your percentage stays smaller. If you want to add a larger amount of coconut oil, I would suggest using our Coconut 110. This will stay nice and firm when the product is in your customers’ hot showers.
- You can also add in more of the Glyceryl Stearate SE to help boost hardness. This will make it almost a styling cream conditioner. You will have to heat up the conditioner in order to add in melted glyceryl stearate se. When you do this, add in your additional preservative at this point.
- You can add in any oil that you would like. This will make the finished product less viscous. The base is very thick so adding oils will still allow for a good texture in the finished product.
How to customize to enhance curls:
Our Premium Hair Conditioner base will weigh down curls, so you will want to lighten it to help enhance curls. The hair will be extremely soft and smooth, so if they are looking to tame curls, just thinning it some with deionized water will work.
For more intense ways to help support curls:
- You will want to thin out with deionized water or any organic hydrosol.
- Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract– this ingredient will help boost the curling effect. You could add up to 5%.
- Organic Broccoli Seed Oil- this works as a silicone alternative, giving good hydration without weighing down the hair. Use at 1-5%.
- Olive Oil Squalane can also be added to increase moisture without weighing down the hair. Use at 1-10%.
- Liquid Colloidal Oatmeal Extract– this helps to prevent water loss, leaving bouncier curls. Use at 1-10%.
- Fuller’s Earth Clay– this clay is excellent for use in hair care products. You would add a very small amount into the Premium Conditioner base; just enough to help enhance curls but not enough to dry out the hair. Start at 1% and test it out.
- Remember- always test your preservative system! If you’re customizing, add in 1% additional preservative of either the Leucidal Liquid Complete or the CampoPlantservative Water Soluble version.
Intensive Hair Mask
This one is fun because you can go in so many directions! Add in Organic Shea Butter or Organic Shea Butter to increase viscosity and really ramp up hydration. Add in Fuller’s Earth Clay and Bentonite Clay to pull out toxins and help reduce sebum production in scalp and hair. Then go crazy with your fun hair oils and specialty ingredients:
- Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract– this ingredient will help boost the curling effect. You could add up to 5%.
- Organic Broccoli Seed Oil- this works as a silicone alternative, giving good hydration without weighing down the hair. Use at 1-5%.
- Olive Oil Squalane can also be added to increase moisture without weighing down the hair. Use at 1-10%.
- Liquid Colloidal Oatmeal Extract– this helps to prevent water loss, leaving bouncier curls. Use at 1-10%.
- Quaternized Lemon Shine– really boost ultimate shine and healthiness of hair. Start at 0.5%.
- Organic Black Seed Oil– this is an ingredient I believe should be in everything! For hair, it helps stimulate hair growth. Incredible ingredient. Start at 5%.
- Organic Argan Oil– the ideal hair oil. Don’t be shy on this one- add it in and love it!
- Allantoin– excellent for smoothing, hydration and hair repair. This is a dry ingredient and can easily be blended into your conditioner mask. Start at 0.5% and increase up to 2%.
- dl-Panthenol– vitamin B5! Whole hair care lines have been created around this ingredient. Again, this is dry so you will just mix in. Start at 0.5% and work up to 2%.
Hair Essential Oils
We have an extensive line of essential oils, many that will have excellent benefits for hair and scalp. The most well-known are peppermint (both Willamette and supreme) and rosemary, but don’t stop there. Frankincense Carterii is excellent hair; tea tree, eucalyptus, white thyme…Even our floral waxes are excellent in conditioners. You can use them the same way you would an essential oil, just melt them down and then dilute them with an oil so they stay liquid and you can incorporate them into the base. This is the least expensive way to get Jasmine, Mimosa or Rose
These are just some suggestions. This base is designed for you to create excellent products for your customers. You can use this same unscented premium conditioner base to create many different finished products.
