Cocoa Butter is such a lovely ingredient with a not-so-lovely price tag. Those of us in this industry have really felt the punch from the massive price increases and the super slow supply of cocoa butter. It takes a lot to bring in large quantities, but it is so worth it when you add this into your formula!!
All four of our cocoa butters are back in stock this week. Here is a little breakdown of the differences:
Deodorized Cocoa Butter- deodorized cocoa butter has been filtered using non-chemical products (usually something like diatomaceous earth) to filter out the color and strong flavor/aroma. This does not mean “odorless” cocoa butter, it simply means less aroma/flavor than natural. This is a plant product and since we don’t bleach it, it will retain some aroma/flavor and it will be different batch to batch. This only makes cocoa butter even more magical in your products, because it is such a strong plant profile.
We offer deodorized cocoa butter in two forms:
- Deodorized Chunks or Blocks, not organic– these chunks are lovingly chopped up by the Shay team so that you don’t have to purchase the whole 55-lb block. These chunks are not consistent in size but are very easy to break and use in your formula.
- Organic Deodorized Wafers– these are uniform in size and weight, but more expensive.
Natural Cocoa Butter- this is the true chocolate lovers dream product! Natural cocoa butter smells, tastes and looks like chocolate. Excellent to use in lip balms, whipped body butters, and super emollient creams, natural cocoa butter will impart the cocoa aroma to your finished product, dependent of course on how much you use in your formula.
We offer natural cocoa butter in two forms:
- Natural Chunks or Blocks– same scenario as with the deodorized, this is a not-organic block that the Shay team dutifully breaks down into smaller sizes for you. The chunks are not uniform in size but they are easy to break down to use in your formula.
- Organic Natural Wafers– these are uniform in size and weight, but more expensive.
One other cacao product we carry, in case you haven’t tried it, is our Cacao Essential Oil! This is like the chocolate syrup of essential oils. Thick, rich and deep in cacao, this essential oil makes a great additive for any cocoa product you’re making. In addition to smelling great, it also carries all the benefits of cacao. This means the super anti-aging benefits of the fatty acid profile! Cacao essential oil is derived directly from the cacao bean, and when it is extracted the omega-6 fatty acids follow it into the essential oils. Omega-6 fatty acids help to boost natural collagen production and firm up the skin.
