Myrrh is derived from the Commiphora tree. It is originally in a sap or resin form and distilled out to an essential oil. Myrrh pairs well with frankincense, lavender, and citrus oils. Myrrh has a slightly spicy, woody scent.

Myrrh is typically associated with religious/spiritual ceremonies. It is often paired with frankincense for these uses.  Myrrh, lavender and frankincense makes an excellent blend to help with meditation and focus.

Using myrrh in topical applications can help stimulate blood flow and circulation, along with helping to reduce the appearance of blemishes and scars and promote healing. Use myrrh in your skin salves and ointments to help promote natural healing, reduce swelling, natural pain relief, and scar reduction. A natural CBD salve incorporating organic tamanu oil, organic castor oil, organic beeswax, organic coconut and an essential oil blend of myrrh, frankincense, palo santo, and holy basil would be soothing, promote healing, and so nourishing for the skin!

Myrrh is also said to help sooth itchy, dry skin. An excellent way to help soothe dry skin would be through a bath soak made with magnesium sulfate, magnesium flakes and a blend of myrrh and lavender. Myrrh can also be applied topically to the scalp to help reduce dandruff and dry, itchy scalp. Try making a hair oil blend of organic argan oil, grapeseed oil, hazelnut oil, tamanu oil and myrrh.

When used in a diffuser, myrrh has been said to help reduce phlegm and congestion. Try blending with eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary and sweet orange.

Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils.  Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
