Lactic Acid is derived through the fermentation process of corn, sugar, or citrus. Our Lactic Acid is made solely of 100% non-GMO corn. Lactic Acid is a clear to light yellow liquid to be incorporated into various skincare formulations, including but not limited to lotions, creams, washes, serums, peels, toners, and more. Lactic Acid should not be used directly on the skin; this product should always be incorporated into a formula as it is very strong.
AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) are incorporated into skincare products to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles, to reduce acne, to help reduce the size of larger pores, to promote brighter more even skin tone, and to help reduce hyperpigmentation. We currently offer three types of AHA’s for all your formulating needs- Lactic Acid, AHA Fruit Enzyme Blend, and Tartaric Acid.
Lactic Acid 88-98% Active: a liquid designed to be used as a leave-on or wash-off facial exfoliant or humectant.
Usage Rate: 1-20%
Optimal final pH: 3.5-5.0
Formulation guidelines: incorporate in the water phase of your formula. You can add Lactic Acid directly to one of our bases, like our Lotion Base or our Aloe Gel Base and have a ready-to-use product. Simply determine the strength level, then add in to the pre-made base and you’re ready to go!
The Aloe Gel Base with Lactic Acid would make an excellent exfoliating serum. You could add some other lovely skin ingredients such as the AHA Fruit Enzyme Blend, Olive Oil Squalane, Organic Rose or Chamomile Hydrosol and a coordinating essential oil and you would have an effective and healing facial serum.
Natural AHA’s are derived from fruit acids, malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid and many others. These versions of AHA’s are considered milder on the skin as they are 100% naturally derived. You can get chemical based AHA’s, which are very effective, but they can cause sensitivity when used too frequently. Natural AHA products can be used daily by most skin types.
Exfoliating the skin is an integral part of rejuvenating the skin. We do a lot of damage to our skin, from the sun exposure to the chemicals in our air, food and some skincare products. Using formulas with natural exfoliation properties encourages cell turnover and helps to repair our skin from all that damage. In addition, frequent exfoliation, both from a physical exfoliant like a face scrub and “chemical” exfoliations like an alpha hydroxy cream, helps to having healthier skin over the long term. When I say “chemical” exfoliations, this includes products made with our natural AHA’s like Tartaric Acid, Lactic Acid, and multi fruit AHA blends.
A new new trend in hair care formulas are exfoliating treatments, cleansing the scalp and hair follicles of product buildup, allowing for new hair growth. Lactic Acid can be incorporated into scalp serums and hair masks at treatment levels.
Lactic Acid is sold in 4 ounce amber glass bottles, 8 ounce amber glass bottles, 16 ounce amber glass bottles, ½ gallon HDPE jugs, 1 gallon HDPE jugs, 5 gallon buckets, or 55 gallon drums. Any orders larger than 55 gallons please email us for pricing.
