Cornmint was brought in as a special request by one of our customers and man, have I fallen for it! I’m a big Oregon peppermint fan, so cornmint was a natural addition for me. Cornmint essential oil is kind of like super boosted peppermint, with just a slightly sweet note, and a lower price point.

The cornmint plant is grown in large amounts all over India and the Himalayas. The profound amount of plants makes it a natural for herbal remedies. Cornmint essential oil is an excellent addition to any products that contain menthol, and can be used in combination with, or instead of, peppermint essential oil.

Menthol based aromas have an immediate cooling effect on the skin, and when used in aromatherapy products. Cornmint essential oil is excellent in a wound or healing salve or topical roll-on oil. Some of our best healing oils are organic Tamanu oil, Oregon hazelnut oil, organic sea buckthorn oil, organic babassu oil, and organic jojoba oil. Blend those with cornmint essential oil, menthol, white camphor essential oil, vetiver essential oil, and a hint of lemongrass essential oil. This would be a bright, woodsy, herbal blend and have excellent powers!

Cornmint essential oil is also great for relieving headaches, muscle aches, and nausea. This can be used through aromatherapy (think breathing blends, diffuser blends, roll-on or solid perfumes). Blend this with menthol, eucalyptus essential oil, Oregon peppermint essential oil, and roman chamomile essential oil.

Expanding your foot care line? How about a cooling and hydrating foot mask? Blend bentonite and kaolin clays with organic babassu oil, Oregon Hazelnut oil, menthol, cornmint essential oil, wintergreen essential oil, rosemary essential oil, and juniper essential oil. Add in pumice or any one of our jojoba beads to make it an exfoliating mask. You can also incorporate organic witch hazel for an additional cooling and drying effect.

Foot sprays (and more importantly, teenager shoe sprays) would have a nice, refreshing pop with cornmint essential oil. Our Organic Witch Hazel and organic peppermint hydrosol would make a great base for this spray. We also have isopropyl alcohol that you can add to make it a sanitizing spray.

I’ve mentioned before that patchouli essential oil and spearmint essential oil is one of my favorites for soap bars. You can also use cornmint essential oil in that blend instead of, or in addition to, the spearmint. It truly is one of my favorite blends. Cornmint essential oil has a strong enough smell that it performs wonderfully in soap bars.

Are you branching out into scalp and hair treatments this year? Natural hair care is in high demand so it is a great line to get into. We have many ingredients that work wonderfully on the scalp and in the hair, including our shampoo base. Cornmint essential oil blended with tea tree essential oil and rosemary essential oil would make a great blend for a dermatitis line. Make sure to check out Daikon Radish Seed Extract for all your hair care lines. This oil is Oregon grown AND has such high levels of moisture and shine for hair care products. An excellent scalp spray would be organic witch hazel, organic peppermint hydrosol as the base, then blend equal parts cornmint essential oil, tea tree essential oil, juniper essential oil and daikon radish seed extract with polysorbate 80. Your scalp will smell and feel so fresh and clean.

Cornmint essential oil blends well with lavender essential oil, peppermint essential oil, rosemary essential oil, juniper essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, patchouli essential oil, sweet basil essential oil, pink grapefruit essential oil, and so many more.

Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils.  Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
