Natural Shampoo and Conditioner Bars are so lovely, and I know many of you want to include them in your line. We have partnered with Stephenson UK to carry their Conditioning Shampoo Melt and Pour base and their Melt and Pour Conditioner base just for you! This is the easiest way to create your own custom solid and eco-friendly Conditioner bars. This melt and pour conditioner base allows your hair care line to be plastic-free, zero waste conditioner and shampoo bars. Both bases are sulfate-free, hydrating, and eco-friendly.

Processing Guidelines for Conditioner Base Bars:

Remove the base from the packaging and cut the product into smaller pieces to aid melting. Melt the product in a microwave or suitable device. We do suggest using a double boiler instead of a microwave, just to maintain the integrity of these fabulous ingredients. The conditioner base will begin to melt at 60°C/140°F. Mix frequently as it is melting so it evenly heats throughout the pan.

Add the chosen additives to the heated product and mix to ensure even distribution. The base does not contain water so anything you add must be oil-soluble otherwise there may be solubility issues. We recommended a maximum of 5% additives, including up to 2% fragrance.

Pour the liquified product into a mold or suitable container between 75 – 80°C/167-176°F and allow to set.

It will become translucent when melted but will return to opaque when cold. If you add colors to the bar, know that the colors will be solid and not translucent in the finished bar.

Add in your goodies! You can add ingredients like dl Panthenol, Daikon Seed Oil, Organic Baobab Oil, Organic Argan Oil, Apricot Oil, Sesame Oil, Calendula Oil, and essential oils like Manuka Oil, Tea Tree Essential Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, or fragrances like our Coconut Island or Wild Rose. Actives can be done at 2-6%; oils can be 2-5%; fragrances and essential oils it is suggested at 2% or less.

Once it is to the formula you want, cool down to 70-80°c/158-176°F then pour it into your molds and let it set up! It is best to allow them to sit in their molds for about 24 hours or longer, as that is when they release easier.

Any of our essential oils or fragrances can be used in this conditioner base. The ones I listed were just an example but feel free to use any and all of them! Well, maybe not all in one bar….

How to use a conditioner bar, as this is different than using a shampoo bar:

Step 1: Hold the bar under the warm water for up to 1 minute, working the bar between your hands to release this conditioner from its solid form.

Step 2:  When it’s reached a creamy lather, massage directly onto wet hair for as long as you feel necessary.

Step 3: Work down from the top of your hair to the ends for maximum benefit. Leave for 2 minutes then rinse off.

Formula Information:

25-50% Glyceryl Stearate (RSPO palm based emulsifier)

25-50% Cetearyl Alcohol (RSPO palm based thickener and hair softener)

10-25% Shea Butter (emollient and humectant)

5-10% Polyglyceryl-4 Oleate (emulsifier)

5-10% Glyceryl Oleate (re-fatting agent, viscosity builder)

5-10% Coconut Oil (humectant, smoothing agent)

1-5% Behentrimonium Chloride (antistatic, hair conditioning agent, emulsifier)

0.5-1% Isopropyl Alcohol

0.1-0.5% Hydrogenated Ehtylhexyl Olivate (silicone alternative)

<0.1% Unsaponifiables.

Solid Melt and Pour Conditioner base is sold in 1-pound biodegradable bags, 5-pound plastic buckets, and 20.9-pound boxes.
