Helichrysum is steam distilled from the flowers of the Helichrysum plant. Helichrysum has a spicy, exotic scent and is often used in high-end perfume blends.
Helichrysum has been used traditionally in topical applications to help reduce swelling and inflammation, and to help ward off diseases. Recent research has suggested possible benefits in protecting against staph, candida and step.
When used in conjunction with basil and peppermint essential oils, Helichrysum has been said to help reduce feelings of exhaustion and mental burnout. Try creating a blend to use in a diffuser to add to our Epsom salt, pure magnesium flakes, and fine dead sea salt to create a sooth bath salt blend.
When used in skincare products, such as facial oil serums or moisturizers, Helichrysum has been said to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and to help combat dry skin and eczema. A great facial oil serum blend would be Oregon hazelnut oil, organic jojoba oil, olive oil squalane, organic sea buckthorn oil, organic rosehip seed oil, organic tamanu oil, organic camellia oil, and a blend of Helichrysum, clary sage, Roman chamomile, and blue tansy essential oils.
Helichrysum blends well with other floral essential oils such as lavender, rose, chamomile and can even blend with tea tree.
If you are making massage oils, be it for face or body, adding a small amount of Helichrysum to your blend can greatly help reduce stress and anxiety, and will help improve your client’s skin. An excellent relaxing massage blend would be grape seed oil, coconut oil, sweet almond oil and a blend of Helichrysum, frankincense, myrrh, and bergamot. Since this will be used in massage the essential oil blend should be a very small percentage of the total formula. Just enough to get the benefits without overwhelming the senses.
Do you make your own sun-protection cream? It is easy to do with our coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butters, add in some castor oil and beeswax to give a good glide, 20% of our titanium dioxide and then add in your essential oils. Helichrysum is excellent at reducing inflammation and pulling out redness so adding this to your natural sun-protection cream would help ease those sunburns.
Do not apply directly to skin. Most essential oils are not designed to be applied directly, rather they are designed to be mixed with a carrier oil such as our organic sunflower or organic jojoba oils. Always perform a small patch test when applying to skin.
Do not take internally unless you are licensed to apply them as such.
